One lovely, Alaskan-autumn day in 1994, Saint Romanos Records was born WFC Records for the purpose of producing and promoting the original music and outreach literature of Peter Jon Gillquist. Four years later, things took a slightly different turn when Peter Jon assisted with the production of a friend’s album. Man in the Desert, by John Mark Lemmel became the first project besides Peter Jon’s with the WFC symbol on the spine. The company was re-named for St. Romanos the Melodist, the patron saint of Orthodox musicians.
In 1999, Saint Romanos Records moved southeast to Beaver Falls, PA, where efforts to create and distribute new projects continued to expand. Peter Jon began to see a dream realized as opportunities for consultation on new projects surfaced among various Orthodox musicians.
In 2002, Peter Jon and his wife Kristina began the process of researching and cataloging recordings from a wide variety of Orthodox recording artists around the U.S. With their home parish, St. John the Evangelist Orthodox Church, they set out to compile original songs from a number of Orthodox artists onto one CD – an effort which was ultimately released in June, 2003 as The Cross Culture Project. The friends and contacts made during this period that opened the door for Saint Romanos Records to start an online store for Orthodox music.
SaintRomanosRecords.com is a place where music lovers can go to get the best liturgical and non-liturgical music from the finest Orthodox musicians and poets.
All profits from online sales go to benefit needy seminarian families (namely ours), and also help to support other Orthodox artists who put a great deal of time and energy into their work.
Thank you for your support!
Sincerely,
Fr. Peter Jon and Kristina Gillquist
